Effectiveness Test of Activated Carbon and Rice Husk Ash in Reducing BOD and COD Levels in Laundry Liquid Waste
Uji Efektivitas Karbon Aktif dan Abu Sekam Padi dalam Menurunkan Kadar BOD dan COD dalam Limbah Cair Laundry
Abstract
This research was conducted to determine the effect of rice husk and activated carbon in decreasing Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) by absorption method. The procedure is carried out through several stages, namely the manufacture of adsorbents by purification of rice husk silica ash, manufacture of activated carbon. The analysis was carried out by calculating the levels of BOD and COD before treatment. Thus, the following results were obtained before the COD treatment was applied to both samples of 4045 mg/L and decreased successively in both the first and second tests, namely 717 mg/L and 689 mg/L (rice husk) and 827 mg/L. and 795 mg/L (activated carbon). In BOD, before treatment in both samples, BOD levels were 1598 mg/L and decreased for the first and second tests, namely 212 mg/L and 193 mg/L (rice husk) and 485 mg/L and 411 mg/L (activated carbon). The effectiveness of rice husk and activated carbon significantly decreases COD and BOD levels in laundry wastewater with a probability value of less than 0.05.
